VAR Introduces New Feature: ‘Vibe Check’
In a move described as “the natural evolution of chaos,” the Premier League has announced that VAR will now include a Vibe Check — a revolutionary system designed to determine decisions based not on rules, angles, or evidence, but on the general emotional energy of the moment.
According to officials, the new feature will allow referees to pause the match, consult a panel of “certified vibe analysts,” and decide whether a goal “felt right.”
A spokesperson explained:
“Football isn’t about accuracy. It’s about vibes. If the crowd’s buzzing, the striker’s confident, and the universe seems aligned, that’s a goal. If the vibe’s off? Disallowed. Simple.”
Early trials have produced mixed results.
In one match, a perfectly legitimate goal was ruled out because the assistant referee “got a weird feeling in his stomach.”
In another, a player was awarded a penalty because “the vibes were immaculate.”
Managers are already struggling to adapt.
Pep Guardiola reportedly spent an entire training session teaching his players how to “manifest favourable energy.”
Meanwhile, Sean Dyche dismissed the system entirely, saying, “My vibe is permanent. It’s gravel.”
Fans appear divided.
Some welcome the new approach, saying it finally brings clarity to VAR decisions.
Others argue that relying on vibes is “only marginally less scientific than what we had before.”
The Premier League insists the system will improve fairness, though insiders admit the Vibe Check occasionally malfunctions — especially during derbies, cup ties, or any match involving Spurs.
As of this weekend, referees have been instructed to trust their instincts, follow the energy, and, if unsure, simply ask themselves:
“Does this feel like football?”
