Peter Murrell Claims Bullseye’s Jim Bowen Gave Him Luxury Motorhome After Appearing on 80s Gameshow
Peter Murrell has stunned political observers, television historians and at least three confused caravan enthusiasts after claiming he was personally gifted a “top‑of‑the‑range luxury motorhome” by Bullseye host Jim Bowen during a long‑forgotten 1980s appearance on the iconic darts‑and‑general‑chaos gameshow.
Murrell, who insists the handover took place “somewhere between 1986 and 1988, definitely after the charity round but before the speedboat reveal”, says he walked away from the studio with a set of keys, a wink from Bowen and the immortal phrase: “You can’t beat a bit of motorhome.”
Television archives, however, show no record of Murrell ever appearing on Bullseye, winning a motorhome, or even being in the audience. One former producer told The Dafty that the show “never gave away anything more extravagant than a caravan, a weekend in Rhyl, or a novelty clock shaped like a dartboard”.
Murrell remains adamant.
“I remember Jim handing me the keys. He said, ‘Stay within the speed limit, pet,’ which I thought was unusually caring for a man who’d just watched me miss the board entirely.”
Experts in 80s game‑show memorabilia say the claim is “logistically unlikely”, noting that Bowen was famously loyal to the speedboat format and rarely deviated into land‑based luxury vehicles.
A spokesperson for the Bullseye fan club added: “If Jim Bowen had ever given away a motorhome, we’d still be talking about it today. It would be the Super, Super, Super Prize.”
Despite the lack of evidence, Murrell insists the motorhome was “a legitimate prize” and that any confusion is due to “poor record‑keeping in the era of shoulder pads”.
The Dafty will continue investigating, mainly because we want to know what the star prize would have been if he’d hit the board.
