DVLA to Look Into Nicola Sturgeon’s Driving Licence After She Claims She Didn’t See a Motorhome Close Up
The DVLA has confirmed it is “reviewing several points of interest” regarding Nicola Sturgeon’s driving licence after the former First Minister stated she had “no recollection whatsoever” of ever seeing a motorhome close up, despite one famously sitting in her mother‑in‑law’s driveway like a large, beige monument to awkward questions.
Officials say the review is “routine”, which in DVLA language means “absolutely not routine but we’re pretending it is until we know what’s going on”.
A spokesperson stressed that the agency was not accusing Sturgeon of wrongdoing, only of “potentially needing a refresher on what counts as a large vehicle, a medium vehicle, or a vehicle that is the size of a small bungalow”.
Sources inside the DVLA say the investigation will include a standard eyesight test, a hazard‑perception check, and a new section added specifically for this case titled ‘Spot the Motorhome’.
Early drafts reportedly include photographs of caravans, vans, and one picture of a perfectly ordinary family home “just to keep her guessing”.Political observers note that Sturgeon’s statement — that she had “never seen the motorhome up close” — has raised eyebrows across Scotland, mainly because the vehicle in question is roughly the size of a ferry and painted a shade of white visible from space.
A neighbour in the area, who asked not to be named, said: “I’m not saying anything about politics, but if you can’t see that motorhome, you shouldn’t be allowed to reverse out a driveway.”
The DVLA says it will publish its findings “in due course”, which traditionally means “after everyone has stopped asking”.
